Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan had to reshuffle his cabinet on Friday after a court ruling. Khan has appointed Badbole Sheikh Rashid Ahmed as Home Minister and Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh as Finance Minister. According to the news of the Government Radio Pakistan, Ahmed is already a part of the Cabinet and was taking charge of the Ministry of Railways while Hafeez Sheikh was serving as Advisor on Finance and Revenue. He is not an elected member and cannot lead many committees. Hafeez Sheikh has been appointed a minister under Article 91 (9) of the Constitution. He can hold the post of minister for six months. He would then have to be elected to the Koumi (national) Asambeli or the Senate.
Brigadier (retd) Ejaz Ahmed Shah, who takes charge of the Home Ministry, has been appointed Minister of Narcotics Control while Azam Khan Swati has been given the responsibility of the Ministry of Railways. Hafeez Sheikh is believed to be made a member of the Senate in March, when elections will be held for the Upper House. The most significant change in the new cabinet has been done in Sheikh Rashid’s ministry. Despite failing to improve the functioning of the Railways, he has been given the responsibility of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
