Richmond. A giant statue of American Confederate general Robert E. Lee, which stood for more than a century, has been removed in Virginia’s capital Richmond on Wednesday. After removing the statue, there was a wave of happiness among the people present there. People started dancing and singing. An equestrian statue, one of the largest Confederacy monuments in America, was removed at 9 a.m. local time.
When the workers tied the statue of his horse with a rope and dropped it from the pedestal, a crowd of hundreds rejoiced. Then the statue was cut into pieces. On this occasion, Governor Rolf Northam said, ‘After a long time, this is happening as a wound healer, so that Virginia can grow and become a welcoming state with inclusion and diversity.’

The Democrat said, ‘This is a history of more than 400 years, which we should not be proud of. The removal of this statue is a big victory for civil rights activists who have been demanding its removal for a long time. He congratulated Virginians for their support in removing it.
Robert Edward Lee was an American Confederate general, best known as the commander of the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. He led the Army of Northern Virginia from 1862 until its surrender in 1865 and earned a reputation as a skilled tactician.
The local governor had planned to remove this statue only last year. But the residents of Richmond had filed two separate lawsuits on this. All of them were opposing its removal. Last week, however, Virginia’s Supreme Court dismissed the lawsuits, clearing the way for the statue’s removal.
