Washington (ANI). Former US Special Representative for Afghanistan Peace Talks Zalmay Khalilzad has said that the US was losing at the hands of the Taliban.
To compensate for this, he chose a deal with the Taliban as a last option. He said this during a conversation with CBS News. During this, he said that the US Army tried many times to put itself in a strong position on the battlefield, but each time it failed.
According to Tolo News, Khalilzad did not stop here, he said that the deal with the Taliban was based only on the fact that the US could not win from them there. Even the time was not supporting us there, it was better to make an agreement with the Taliban now or later.
In this conversation, he has also vented his anger on Ashraf Ghani, the former President of Afghanistan. He said that he could not bring the defense sector together even in this time. He also said that his escape from Kabul by turning his back made the situation worse.
With the withdrawal of its forces from Afghanistan, the US was only going according to the days on the calendar, while it was completely disregarded by the ground reality. He had no idea of the ground reality. Ignoring the challenges there and the failures in the past, the US was limited only to preventing terrorist threats from Afghanistan.
The former ambassador admitted that despite two decades of US military presence in Afghanistan, he had failed to bring democracy there.
Responding to a question related to the formation of democracy in Afghanistan, Khalilzad said that he believes that what the US tried for there has proved to be a complete failure. Taliban is a reality in Afghanistan.

On October 18, Khalilzad was removed from the post of Special Representative by the US. This information was given by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. He said that he made up his mind to resign from this position when the US was beginning to formulate a new policy for Kabul after the withdrawal of its forces from Afghanistan.
