Singapore’s ‘Little India’ is illuminated with colors to welcome Diwali. This time big decorations have been done on Serangoon Road.
Here a grand gopuram (temple rock) illuminated with colorful lights has been built in the style of the temple of South India. There are over 50 such reception gates across Singapore. Along with this, from the metro station to the market, the market is drenched with colorful lights.
People from all over the world come to see the celebrations of Diwali in Singapore. In 2019, 20 lakh people had reached here during the celebrations of Diwali. Preparations are on for the celebrations of Diwali for the second consecutive year amid the pandemic.
This time the restrictions are less, yet the number of visitors will not be as much as pre-covid. It is estimated that this time 3.5 lakh people will come during Diwali.
Keeping this in mind, for the first time, live streaming of Diwali events will be done. For the first time, the celebrations in Singapore will span five hours, which will be live streamed on their Facebook pages by Tamil associations around the world.
Speakers from India and Singapore, fusion music and talk show will be part of the Deepavali show, which will be shot in Singapore.
It will be telecast live through Chennai-based Tamil language channel Puthujujuga TV. On Diwali, a procession will take place twice on a silver chariot at Sri Mariamman Temple in Chinatown. It is one of the oldest temples in Singapore.
