Hackers broke into the country’s largest bank, officials claim – both money and data are safe

There has been a cyber attack on the server of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP).

Giving this information on Saturday, the bank said that some services of the bank have been stopped after the attack. However both the data and money of the bank are safe.

According to NBP, this case related to cyber security of the bank is being investigated. The bank also stated that no other bank has reported the incident of cyber attack.

The bank said that they are taking stock of the situation and ensuring that the banking system is working properly or not. The National Bank said a cyber attack was detected on

the bank’s servers in the late hours of October 29 and early morning of October 30. After this, 40-50 local and international experts together took the system out of danger.

Services will start by Monday
NBP President Arif Usmani said that three professional companies including Microsoft are working to restart the services of the bank by Monday. He said that the services of the bank will have to be fully operational by Monday.

On behalf of the government, we send the salary on the 1st of every month. If 1st is Monday, then in any case, work in the bank has to be started by Monday.

Usmani also told that this attack is similar to the cyber attack on the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). About two and a half months ago there was a cyber attack on FBR and it took about 2 weeks for the bank to recover from it.
