TikTok is back on the Apple App Store Google Play in the United States After a period of ban, following the decision of US President Donald Trump to postpone the implementation of the ban until April 5, according to To Reuters.

This comes amid ongoing controversy over the fate of the Chinese app, which faces threats of being banned or having its parent company, Byte Dance, forced to sell it for security reasons.

Ban postponed and new deadline

The app had previously been banned, before a law was passed on January 19 requiring the company to sell it or face closure in the United States.

The next day, Trump signed an executive order giving the app an additional 75 days, allowing it to temporarily return to US markets.

The app is back on the app stores.

Despite the ban being postponed, Google and Apple did not immediately return the app to their stores, as they were waiting for legal assurances that they would not face any fines or lawsuits for making it available again. After receiving the necessary assurances, TikTok became available for download again.

TikTok is the most downloaded app

ccording to data from Sensor Tower, TikTok was the second most downloaded app in the United States in 2024, with more than 52 million downloads.

Downloads via the Apple Store accounted for about 52%, while 48% came from the Google Play Store.

TikTok’s future is still unclear

Despite its temporary return, TikTok’s future in the United States remains uncertain. Trump has said the current 75-day grace period could be extended, and that he is in talks with several parties interested in buying the app. A final decision on its fate is expected in the coming weeks.
