India has strongly reprimanded Switzerland for trying to educate India about minorities in the United Nations. India has told it that it needs to focus on its internal matters instead of giving advice to other countries.
United Nations: India has given a befitting reply to Switzerland for giving advice on minorities in the United Nations. Switzerland was expressing concern over the treatment of minorities in the UN, after which India has given a strong response. Switzerland was advising India to “protect minorities”. On this, India taught such a lesson which it will always remember. Instead of worrying about other countries, India reminded Switzerland of the racism, systematic discrimination and hatred towards foreigners (xenophobia) present in its country. After this, it became speechless.
Switzerland should focus on its internal issues
After reprimanding Switzerland in the General Assembly, India said that instead of questioning other countries, it should focus on its internal matters, which it is unable to handle. Kshitij Tyagi, Counselor in India’s Permanent Mission, while responding to the remarks of the Swiss representative to the United Nations, said that Switzerland should focus on its internal issues and it does not have the right to advise others.
Switzerland gave this statement
On Tuesday, the Swiss representative at the United Nations appealed to India to ensure the safety of minorities and maintain freedom of expression and media freedom. Switzerland asked India to take effective steps so that all citizens in the country can get their fundamental freedoms.
India’s response
India reacted strongly to this advice of Switzerland. Indian representative Kshitij Tyagi pointed to Switzerland’s own social issues and said that problems like “racism, systematic discrimination and xenophobia” exist there. Switzerland should first focus on those internal issues. India also made it clear that it will not accept such criticism, especially when the critic himself is facing serious internal problems.
