The search for Nazir, who is absconding in the US in connection with the brutal murder of an Indian woman and her six-year-old son in 2017, has intensified. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to Hamid’s arrest. The FBI has appealed to the Indian government for assistance in Hamid’s extradition.

In fact, the bodies of Sasikala Narra (38) and her son, Anish Narra (6), were found in their apartment in Maple Shade, New Jersey, USA, on March 23, 2017. A postmortem examination revealed that they had been murdered by stabbing them in the neck. Anish’s head was severed from his body, and both bore numerous stab wounds.

Revealed during investigation

During the investigation, it was revealed that the accused, Nazir Hameed, an Indian citizen, lived in the same apartment complex as the victims. As the investigation into the murders progressed, he was identified as a suspect after it was discovered that he had been stalking the victims’ husband and father. He fled to India six months after the murders and has been hiding there ever since.

A drop of blood found at the scene did not belong to any of the victims. Later, the DNA of that blood matched Hameed’s. In February 2025, Hameed was charged with six felonies, including murder.

Justice has no limits

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy last week called Indian Ambassador Vinay Kwatra to request immediate cooperation in extraditing Hameed. Burlington County Prosecutor Lachia Bradshaw said, “Justice knows no bounds. We appeal to the Indian government to bring this heinous criminal to the United States without delay so that he can face the consequences of his actions.”

Hameed is on the most wanted list.

The FBI has added Hameed to its most wanted list. Officials said the announcement of charges against Hameed was delayed as investigators attempted to gather additional evidence and work with federal law enforcement partners to extradite him from India. The FBI has now announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to his investigation.
