Ajit Pai will resign as FCC chairman in America

New York: Ajit Pai, of Indian origin in the US, has announced his resignation as the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). He was appointed chairman by President Donald Trump. Pai said he would step down on January 20. On the same day Joe Biden will take over as the 46th President of the US. Pai, 47, announced his resignation plan on Monday.

He is one of the senior officials of Indian origin in Trump administration. Pai worked with Trump to ban the US use of telecommunications equipment from Chinese companies such as Huawei and ZTE. These were considered a threat to national security. Pai said in a statement, “I am proud to aggressively protect my communication network from the threats of national security at home and abroad.”

Pai faced heavy opposition during his tenure over plans to end the controversial net neutrality. The FCC is an independent agency in the US that regulates the services of radio, television, wire, satellite and cable.

Trump’s advisor resigns

According to news agency PTI, President Trump’s controversial special adviser on the corona virus, Dr. Scott Atlas, resigned. The inexperienced atlas regarding public health or infectious diseases questioned the need for masks and other measures to prevent the corona epidemic.
