Washington: The bright moon seen in the sky has always attracted humans. This is the reason why scientists have wanted to reach there. Only five countries in the world, India, America, Russia, China and Japan have been able to go to the moon.
On Sunday, a private American company successfully landed its first spacecraft on the moon, which is a big success for science. Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost Mission 1 landed near Mons Latreille at 8:34 am local time. It is a volcanic structure in Mare Crisium in the north-eastern part of the moon. As soon as the aircraft landed, a wave of happiness ran in the mission team. Although this success is not like the one achieved in Chandrayaan-3, but it is still a big step.
The size of the Golden Lander is equal to a small car and was launched on January 15 through a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. During its journey to the moon, it took many spectacular pictures of the earth and the moon. If we compare it with India’s Chandrayaan 3 mission, there is a huge difference. The biggest difference is that Chandrayaan was launched with the funding of the Indian government. Chandrayaan also sent a rover named Pragyan along with Vikram Lander, which ran on the surface of the moon. But there is no rover in the Golden Lander. Apart from this, India had done a feat which no one could do before it.
India had done a great feat.
India’s Vikram Lander landed on the South Pole of the Moon. Landing here is extremely difficult. Apart from this, this is the area where there is a possibility of presence of water. Blue Ghost has 10 instruments, including a device to analyze the soil of the moon. A full lunar eclipse is going to take place on March 14. During this time it is expected that it will capture spectacular pictures. Earlier in February 2024, the lander of an American company came down very fast. Then one of its legs got stuck and overturned, due to which the mission almost failed.
Preparations for landing of two more missions
After the successful landing of Blue Ghost, two more guests are going to reach the moon. Two more missions will land on the moon in the coming weeks. Intuitive Machines’ Athena and Japanese private mission Resilience Hakuto-R2 are among the next landers expected to land. Athena was launched on February 26, 2025 via SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. This is the second lunar mission of Intuitive Machines. It is expected to land on March 6. Athena will try to land close to the South Pole, where India has already landed.
