According to a Reuters report, during the video conferencing, US President Joe Biden forgot to turn on his mic for a long time.
According to the Daily Mail report, Biden smiled and said hello to Putin as soon as the virtual meeting with Putin began. But Putin remained calm. After a brief conversation, Biden realized that he had not even turned on his microphone. Soon after, he turned on the mic and took the conversation forward. This was Biden-Putin’s second meeting since the Geneva summit in June. The video conferencing between Biden-Putin started at 6.08 pm and lasted till 8.10 pm.
Indeed, officials in Ukraine and Western countries are concerned that Moscow has signaled plans to attack its neighbour, with Russia increasing military mobilization near Ukraine. Russia, however, said it had no such intentions and accused Ukraine and its Western allies of making baseless claims while hiding their alleged offensive plans.
It is not clear whether the Russian army gathering will trigger the attack. Russian President Vladimir Putin has also stressed on Western guarantees to prevent the expansion of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) in Ukraine.
US intelligence officials said last week that Russia plans to deploy an estimated 1,75,000 troops and about half of them are already stationed at various locations near Ukraine’s border to prepare for a possible offensive. It was feared that the war could start in early 2022.
Ukraine also says that after warnings from Western countries, Russia has gathered more than 90,000 soldiers just a short distance from the border between the two countries. Ukraine’s defense ministry said the 41st unit of Russia’s military was stationed near Yelnya, about 260 kilometers (160 mi) north of the Ukrainian border.
