Little Rock (US):  One out of every five prisoners in the United States most affected by the corona virus is infected with the corona virus, four times more than the general population. According to data collected by the Associated Press and the Marshall Project, more than half of the prisoners have been infected in some states.

The corona epidemic has entered its 10th month in the US. Americans, who have been waiting for a long time, have started applying the Corona vaccine. By this time at least 2 lakh 75 thousand prisoners have been infected with the epidemic and more than 1,700 have died. Currently, there are no signs of slowing down of the virus from inside the jails.

New cases of corona that have been lodged in jails this week have reached their highest level. Homer Venters, former chief medical officer at New York’s Rikers Island prison complex, says the number is even higher. Venters has inspected more than a dozen Kovid-19 prisons across America on court orders.

The rollout of the Corona vaccine in the US is a difficult decision for politicians and policy makers. Since the virus is spreading rampant behind bars. Prisoners in prisons cannot create social distance and are completely dependent on the state for their safety.

26-year-old Donette Westmoreland, recently released from Lansing Correctional Facility in Kansas, was also infected with Corona. He was arrested on a marijuana charge. Westmoreland was inhabited by more than 100 virus-infected people, where it was daily exposed to diseases that were unable to stand on their own. About 5100 prisoners have been infected in Kansas prisons with the third-largest corona virus rate in the country.

Westmoreland where eleven of them in prison have died. Two of the three prison employees killed in Kansas worked at the Lansing Correctional Facility. In Arkansas, more than 9,700 inmates are infected and 50 have died. Four out of every seven prisoners here are infected with the corona virus.

The infection rate was calculated by AP and The Marshall Project, a nonprofit news organization, covering the criminal justice system, based on data collected weekly in jails since March. It states that prisons may have an even higher corona infection and mortality.
