At the same time, some parts are expected to receive the heaviest snowfall of the decade.
A layer of icy water frozen on the roads
Snow has frozen over major roads in parts of Kansas, western Nebraska and Indiana. The state’s National Guard has been activated to help stranded people. The US National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning in Kansas and Missouri, where winds can blow at a speed of 45 miles per hour in case of storm. At least 8 inches of snowfall was expected. Apart from this, a warning has been issued for New Jersey from Monday (January 6) to Tuesday (January 7) morning.
The weather service issued a statement
The weather service said Sunday morning that “the heaviest snow events in the region are expected to see the heaviest snowfall in the past 10 years.” According to Bob Oravec of the National Weather Service, about 63 million people in the US were under winter warnings Sunday (Jan. 5).
Why is it so cold in America?
Actually, the polar vortex revolving around the North Pole is a circle of the coldest winds and when this vortex starts moving from the north towards the south, people of America, Europe and Asia feel very cold. At the same time, research has shown that the rapidly warming Arctic region is responsible for the increase in the icy effect of the polar vortex.
