New York: The American Jewish Committee (AJC), a leading Jewish advocacy organization in America, has reacted sharply to American officials criticizing India for buying oil from Russia. The organization clearly stated that blaming India for the Russia-Ukraine crisis is unfair and it can harm the US-India strategic relationship. The Jewish advocacy group said that India is not responsible for this crisis. They also criticized US President Trump’s decision to put undue pressure on India.

This kind of behavior with a friendly country is wrong

In a statement on Friday, AJC said it was “shocked and concerned” by the rhetoric made by US officials on India. He stressed that India is a democratic friendly country and also an important strategic partner of the US. In such a situation, such behavior with it is inappropriate. Jews also termed the remarks of Trump’s advisor Peter Navarro as “insulting”.

What did Navarro say?

Peter Navarro called the Russia-Ukraine war “Modi’s War”. Navarro also said that “the road to peace partly goes through New Delhi.” AJC called it “an outrageous and misleading accusation”. It also said that it is wrong to blame India for this war. AJC acknowledged that India’s energy needs may tilt it towards Russian oil, but added that this does not mean that India is complicit in Russia’s war crimes.

India’s important role in global balance

Jews said, “We regret India’s dependence on Russian oil, but India is not responsible for Putin’s war. India is an independent democracy, which is playing an important role in the global balance of power. AJC stressed that now is the time to try to re-strengthen the relationship between America and India. “This is the time to increase trust and cooperation between two democratic countries, not to sour the relationship with baseless allegations.”
