New York: The United Nations (UN) wants to bring Iran’s nuclear program to a position before the US breaks out of the agreement. For this, he has started the initiative. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has asked Iran to clear its position regarding concerns arising over the nuclear and ballistic missile program and fully abide by the 2015 nuclear deal.
The United Nations Secretary-General has also expressed regret over the Security Council report in which the Trump administration has re-imposed sanctions on Iran, separating itself from the agreement in 2018. He also expressed concern over Iran’s decision of 2019, in which it has increased the uranium enrichment limit.
Guterres said that in the last five years, the 2015 agreement was under constant monitoring, dialogue and diplomatic steps by the international community regarding nuclear disarmament. But the Trump administration called the agreement itself a wrong step and in 2018 completely withdrew from the agreement.
After the change of power in the US, the newly elected President Joe Biden hinted at returning from Iran to the 2015 nuclear deal. It is believed that the efforts of the United Nations can normalize the situation. The Security Council report in this regard will be discussed on 22 December in the United Nations.
