An aide to US Vice President Kamala Harris has said that she does not support an arms embargo on Israel. This is her first major statement on the Gaza war policy after becoming the official candidate of the Democratic Party in the US presidential election.

Kamala Harris is one of the voices raised for the Gaza victims in America, she has always strongly raised the issue of hungry and innocent Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks against Hamas. Harris may have reiterated her commitment to support Israel’s self-defense, but in a meeting with Netanyahu in late July, Harris strongly criticized Israel’s policies. But what happened suddenly that Kamala Harris changed her mind about Palestine?

Changed mind due to protest by Palestine supporters?

In fact, during Kamala Harris’ rally in Michigan on Wednesday, some protesters raised pro-Palestine slogans. These people were protesting against the US aid to Israel and were shouting slogans of ‘genocide’. The protesters tried to interrupt Kamal Harris’s speech several times, in such a situation, Kamala Harris addressed the protesters directly and said, “If you want Donald Trump to win, then keep saying this, otherwise I am speaking.”

Kamala follows Biden’s path on Israel!

Can this statement from Kamala Harris’s aide be considered a mere coincidence, just 24 hours after the protest by Palestinian supporters? Or should it be believed that Kamala Harris has changed her mind about Israel due to the protest? In fact, Arab Americans included in the Democratic voting block have been opposing Israel’s attack on Gaza. These people have demanded to stop the supply of such weapons to Israel which are being used to kill innocent people in Gaza.

From Kamala Harris’s old statements on Israel, it was being speculated that if she is elected president, she might take such tough decisions against Israel, but from this latest statement, it seems that Kamala Harris will also follow Biden’s footsteps on Israel.

In America, the presidents of both the Democratic and Republican parties have adopted almost the same stance regarding Israel so far. The American presidents strengthened Israel, their biggest ally in the Middle East, by giving it military and economic aid. When Kamala Harris raised the issue of ceasefire in front of Netanyahu, it was believed that her stand on Israel could become tough, but at present there is no such possibility.
