Moscow Format: Russia convenes talks on Afghanistan, America will not participate

Delegation of 10 countries and Taliban will take part

Russia has informed that a delegation of 10 countries and the Taliban will participate in the Moscow format meeting regarding the situation in Afghanistan. This meeting will be held on October 20, in which India will also play an important role.

Sputnik reports that the meeting in Moscow will focus on the military, the political situation in Afghanistan, the formation of an inclusive government and international efforts to prevent a humanitarian crisis. Russian Foreign Minister Sergi Lavrov will address the participants of the meeting.

Khalilzad’s resignation

Meanwhile, Secretary of State Antony Blinken later announced that Khalilzad, the US Special Representative for Afghanistan, was stepping down and would be replaced by his deputy, Thomas West. Khalilzad has played an important role in peace talks between the US and the Taliban.

Khalilzad wrote in his resignation that the political system between the government of Afghanistan and the Taliban did not work out as it was envisioned. The reasons for this are very complex and I will share my thoughts on it in the coming days or weeks.

Kazakhstan sent four thousand tons of flour to Afghanistan

According to news agency ANI, officials in Balkh province of Afghanistan said that Kazakhstan has provided more than four thousand tonnes of flour to Afghanistan as humanitarian aid. Abdul Latif, head of Balkh province’s national disaster management department, said it would be distributed among needy families.
