San Francisco, AP. A powerful storm has now scared everyone in the US state of California. California was currently facing the biggest drought in history.
The largest droughts have been caused by climate change in Northern and Southern California. However, now the powerful storm changed the picture here. While the recent fires in the northern part of the state brought traffic to a halt on the highway, evacuation orders had to be issued to the areas concerned.
The fire that started in the mountainous area forced the closure of major Hawaiian US-101 connecting the coast. Due to the high wind speed, the fire spread very fast in the dense bushes. Wind speed up to 113 kmph was recorded in some areas.
However, if seen now, it seems as if the storm has erased the traces of the drought. The Sacramento Office of the National Weather Service has issued a warning of historic rainfall here.
Meanwhile, flooding has been reported in the San Francisco Bay Area, road closures in Berkeley, the Bay Bridge toll plaza in Oakland and rivers flowing into Napa and Sonoma counties. Electric poles have fallen and thousands of people are without electricity in the North Bay.
As of Sunday morning, Mount Tamalpais, north of San Francisco, had recorded half a foot (15 cm) of rain during the past 12 hours, the weather agency said.
About 150 miles (241 km) to the north, it closed a section of California Highway. There have been many landslides on a large scale here. The Highway Patrol office in Auroville tweeted on Sunday, “This morning we have already seen vehicles colliding, several trees falling, most likely due to flooding.”
He warned that if you can stay at home today and stay off the streets, please do the same. If you are on the roads, please use extreme caution. The state’s Department of Transportation said that in California’s Colusa and Yolo counties, state Highways 16 and 20 are closed for a considerable distance.
