Spain is set to launch a mobile application aimed at preventing minors from accessing pornographic content. The application is being called Porn Passport. This application will allow people who can legally search for porn to access it without being tracked, while preventing children from accessing the same content.
What is a porn passport?
The Porn Passport initiative is part of a new digital wallet app from the Spanish government, reports the Olive Press. The app, officially called Digital Wallet Beta, will allow internet platforms to check whether a person viewing pornography is of legal age.
How will this porn application work?
By the end of this summer, porn viewers will be asked to verify their age through the app. Once verified, they will receive 30 “porn credit” points, which will allow them to access legal content. The validity of porn credits will be up to one month.
How will the “porn credits” or tokens work?
According to News Byte, each credit point issued by this app will generate a QR code. When a user types the address of a porn site, he will see a link. Clicking on it will activate a connection with the digital wallet. The wallet will then present credentials that will verify the user’s age without giving other details. A user can enter the same website 10 times using one token.
How will it know the age of the user?
Government issued ID will be used to verify the age of the user.
Is there a limit on the number of tokens that can be generated during a month? Users can renew their tokens or porn credits as many times as they want during a month. However, those who use up all the tokens will receive alerts to renew their digital passport. If they access websites frequently, they are at a higher risk of being traced.
So far this system has been criticized for its complexity, but the Spanish government claims that it will work with greater privacy and compatibility. This system will keep children away from pornographic material. This app will not track those who watch porn legally.
