The presidential debate held just 56 days before the US presidential election is being discussed everywhere. Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, candidates of America’s two biggest political parties, were face to face for the first time. In the 90-minute debate, Trump attacked Kamala Harris on several issues and called her a Marxist and the worst vice president. Kamala Harris, on the other hand, called Trump a dictator and extremist and said that he has no plan.
If we compare the speeches of both, Trump spoke for a full 42 minutes while Kamala Harris got a chance to speak for 37 minutes. The host of this debate, ABC News, has fact-checked the claims made by both the rivals during the presidential debate.
Trump or Kamala Harris, whose claim is stronger?
According to the fact check of ABC News, Kamala Harris made a total of 13 claims during her speech. Out of these, 3 claims are proven false, while 4 claims needed references, while 6 of her claims are proven to be true somewhere.
Former President and Republican candidate Donald Trump made a total of 12 claims during the entire debate. Surprisingly, out of these 12 claims, only one claim was found to be true. 11 claims made by Trump are false or misleading.
Trump’s big claims that proved to be wrong
Republican candidate Donald Trump claimed that Kamala Harris was the reason he was shot in the head, Trump’s claim is false. The FBI, which is investigating the firing incident on Trump, has not yet been able to find out why the accused Thomas Matthew Crooks attacked Trump. No connection of this incident with Kamala Harris or the Democratic Party has been proved so far.
Trump has also made a false claim on the issue of abortion. Trump has said that Kamala Harris and Tim Walz support abortion even in the seventh, eighth and ninth months. He even said that in some states the Democratic Party has allowed the killing of even newborn babies. This claim of Trump is completely false. Killing of children after birth is not allowed in any state of America.
In some states, abortion is only allowed as long as the fetus is not capable of surviving outside the mother’s womb. Usually, premature delivery occurs in the sixth, seventh or eighth month and in most cases, babies born in this way are now able to survive with proper treatment and care. Apart from this, terminating a full-term and healthy pregnancy i.e. abortion in the sixth or seventh month is very risky, which most doctors never do.
Apart from this, Trump also made a false claim about immigrants, he said that immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, are killing and eating people’s pet dogs and cats. Trump said that he has heard people saying this on TV. However, when ABC News talked to the city manager of Springfield on this issue, he rejected this claim.
According to the information, such false rumors are being spread online in Ohio, while officially not a single such case has been reported in which immigrants have harmed anyone’s pets.
Trump’s only claim was found to be true
Trump said that he did not fire anyone over the Afghanistan issue while he was president, this is the only claim of Trump that has been found to be true. However, this needs reference. When American troops were withdrawn from Afghanistan in 2021, the Trump administration neither held any officer responsible for the chaos that took place nor was anyone fired.
On which issues did Kamala Harris lie?
Vice President and Democratic Party candidate Kamala Harris has made false claims on 3 issues. Kamala Harris said that if Donald Trump is re-elected as President, he will sign a ‘National Abortion Ban’, whereas Donald Trump has already said that he is not going to do anything like this. However, he supported the Supreme Court’s decision regarding abortion.
Apart from this, Kamala Harris has accused Donald Trump of sharing ‘love letters’ with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, which is wrong. Trump met dictator Kim at a summit in Singapore in June 2018. He also thanked the North Korean leader for a beautiful letter, the White House said that Trump has sent a reply to the North Korean leader’s letter.
Most of Kamala Harris’ claims are correct
6 out of 13 claims of Kamala Harris are completely correct, while 4 claims need references. Kamala Harris said that 16 Nobel laureates believe that Trump’s policies will increase inflation and push the country into a huge economic crisis. Harris claimed that Trump had called climate change a hoax, she said that Trump wants to impose a 20 percent tax on almost all goods, which will put an additional burden of about 4 thousand dollars on every family.
Harris claimed that Trump killed the bill that could have ensured border security. Based on data from US political experts and the Federal Reserve Bank, debate host ABC News found these claims of Kamala Harris to be true.
