Washington: US President Donald Trump has made a big statement after the Israel-Iran ceasefire. Trump has said that within a week there will be a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip as well.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said that he has spoken to some people involved in trying to secure an agreement for a ceasefire and the release of hostages. However, Trump did not elaborate on this. Trump was hosting the foreign ministers of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda at the White House.

During this, Trump told reporters, ‘The situation in Gaza is terrible, and in view of this, we are sending a lot of money and a large amount of food to that area.’ He further said, ‘In principle we are not involved in this, but we are also involved in it, because people are dying. I see the crowd of people who have neither food nor anything else.’ Along with this, Trump expressed regret and said that some aid is being stolen by ‘bad people’, but the new Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) system is ‘quite good’.

People come forward to help

Trump said other countries should step in to help. Apart from the US, other countries have stayed away from the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). Its controversial system requires Gazans to travel long distances to get food; they have to cross IDF lines. According to Israeli media reports, the statement is important because Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s top aide and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer is scheduled to visit Washington next week.

Let us tell you, tension increased in the area after Hamas’ sudden attack on Israel’s Nova Festival on 7 October 2023. About 1,200 people were killed and 251 were taken hostage in the Hamas attack. Israel started air strikes on Gaza only after the attack.
