WASHINGTON, INS. US diplomat Zalmay Khalilzad has called the US agreement with the Taliban absolutely correct. He said that American soldiers had fought the longest battle in history. This fight should have ended.
In this context, the US agreement with the Taliban was correct. The deal was disturbed when President Ashraf Ghani suddenly decided to leave Kabul. The whole plan was shattered by him.
It is noteworthy that Khalilzad was the main negotiator on behalf of the US for this agreement and recently he has resigned from his post. After resigning, he has given the first interview to American news channel CBS
Khalilzad said he did not give any false information to US President Joe Biden. The situation on the ground and the progress of each stage of the talks were briefed to the Biden administration and before that to the higher officials of the Trump administration.
The diplomat said he was not the only one to brief the US administration on the ground situation in Afghanistan. American intelligence, military officials and others were reporting the situation to the administration.
The three presidents had almost identical views on Afghanistan. By the time Khalilzad was made a negotiator, the Taliban had recaptured 60 percent of Afghanistan’s territory. In response to a question,
Khalilzad has confirmed the presence of the terrorist organization Al Qaeda in Afghanistan. But the Taliban have denied his claim. He has said that al-Qaeda no longer exists in Afghanistan.
Deputy Minister of Information and Culture Zabiullah Mujahid refuted Khalilzad’s statements and said such information had not yet been received. According to Tolo News, the Mujahid said, ‘I do not see any such threat. No such person is present here and we have not received any information at this stage.
