Islamabad: A delegation from the Qatar-based Taliban political office is scheduled to arrive in Islamabad on Wednesday for a three-day visit to discuss the Afghan peace process. During his stay in Islamabad, the delegation led by Deputy Chief of Taliban Mullah Abdul Ghani Bardar will meet Prime Minister Imran Khan and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi. The Taliban spokesman said that the delegation is visiting at the invitation of the Government of Pakistan. The Afghan government and Taliban negotiators have taken a break to consult their princes on the negotiation agenda. There will be a change of power in the US next month. Special Representative of America Khalilzad visited Islamabad on Monday. Khalilzad had tweeted after reaching Pakistan and said that the war is going on sadly. A political settlement, a reduction in violence and a cease-fire are urgently needed. He had also said that there should be no delay in resuming talks and that it should resume on 5 January as agreed. This year Pakistan not only helped the US and the Taliban to sign their agreement, but also facilitated the beginning of intra-Afghan negotiations and agreed on rules and procedures for negotiation.

During a visit to Kabul last month, Prime Minister Imran Khan assured the Afghan leadership of Pakistan’s cooperation to reduce violence in Afghanistan.
