According to a news in Hindustan Times, in view of the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan, the US is sending more than 3,000 troops to Afghanistan to help evacuate diplomats and Special Visa Applicants (SIVs). These soldiers will immediately be stationed at the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul. These American soldiers will help in the return of American citizens from Afghanistan and will provide them with airfare and security.
In addition, about 1000 other US security personnel will be sent to Qatar to help manage Afghans who are being deported from Afghanistan and transferred to the US on special visas. 35,000 soldiers will be on standby to be deployed from the US base to Kuwait to be sent to Afghanistan if needed. Pentagon Chief Spokesperson John Kirby said that US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has ordered the department to do everything possible to ensure the safety and security of America and fellow civilian personnel. The announcement of the additional deployment of troops by the US comes amid growing concerns in the Biden administration with the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan, where the Taliban is moving more rapidly.
The White House said on Wednesday that it was up to the Afghan leadership to decide whether they had the political will to retaliate, with the Taliban taking over much of Afghanistan earlier in the day.
