Former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama have endorsed Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate for the US presidential election. After this, the path for Vice President Kamala Harris to contest the election is almost clear.

In a video released on Friday, Harris is seen talking to the Obama couple on a phone call. This support has come at a time when Kamala Harris’s name is coming to the forefront in the list of potential candidates of the party after President Joe Biden withdrew from the election race.

According to experts, this also shows the friendship between Obama, America’s first black president, and Kamala Harris, the country’s first black female vice president. In this video, former President Obama told Harris, “We called Michelle and said that we are proud to support you and do everything possible to make you win this election.”

In this video, Kamala Harris is seen talking on the phone at the backstage of an event. Michelle Obama said, “I am proud of you. This is going to be a historic moment.” Kamala Harris thanked her for this support and said that she is looking forward to being with her in the three-month election campaign before the election on November 5. Kamala Harris said, “This is going to be a lot of fun, isn’t it?”

It is worth noting that Obama is probably the last major leader of the party to formally endorse Kamala Harris. According to a survey by Associated Press, Harris has already secured the support of a majority of the delegates to the Democratic National Convention. This convention will begin in Chicago on August 19. The Democratic National Committee hopes to have a virtual nomination vote by August 7, which is expected to give Harris an official Democratic ticket.

Biden endorsed Harris within an hour of announcing his withdrawal from the election race last Sunday. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate leader Chuck Schumer, House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries, House Minority Whip Jim Clyburn, former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have also endorsed Kamala Harris.
