China changed western commander

Amid the ongoing border dispute between India and China, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China has appointed a new commander at the Western Theater Command. According to Chinese media, the head of the Central Military Commission (CMC) President Xi Jinping has handed over the command of the Western Front to General Zhang Shudong. However, India has been expressing confidence over the past few days that military and diplomatic levels are being negotiated between the two countries and that the forces of the two countries may soon withdraw.

According to reports, Xi Jinping has also promoted 4 Chinese military and police officers. New appointments and promotions at high levels in the Western Command of the PLA raise questions over China’s intentions amid the ongoing conflict between the two countries in eastern Ladakh since May. A total of 9 rounds of talks have been held between the forces of the two countries at the Corps Commander level. The last conversation between the two was held on December 10 at the foreign ministry level. This conversation between the two countries was about removing their troops from the forward area and maintaining peace.
