Beijing, ANI. China’s Xi Jinping government is now engaged in nefarious efforts to cut Tibetan students out of their language. Chinese authorities have banned “informal” Tibetan language classes in Qinghai province, according to news agency ANI.

Children go outside their schools for classes in these subjects. Radio Free Asia quoted sources as saying in its report that Chinese officials have also warned that anyone who violates this order of the government will face “severe legal punishment”.

The source said that this is a nefarious attempt to wipe out the Tibetan language. No person or organization has been allowed by the Chinese authorities to hold informal classes or workshops to teach the Tibetan language during the winter holidays when schools are closed. There is pressure from the Chinese authorities to teach subjects like maths and science only in Chinese.

Radio Free Asia, quoting the source, said in its report that mathematics and science are already being taught in Chinese in all primary schools. After pressure from the Chinese authorities, all other subjects will gradually be taught in the Chinese language. A researcher at the Tibetan Center for Human Rights and Democracy in Dharamsala said the Chinese government’s restrictions on Tibetan language classes violate the basic rights of Tibetans.

The work of crushing those opposing this move from China has also started. Chinese authorities have detained two Tibetan students who ‘opposed’ the Chinese government’s plan to introduce the use of the Chinese language as the sole medium of instruction in Tibetan schools.

These students, named Gyuldrak and Yangrik, had lodged a protest on social media platforms against the Chinese policy beginning in September. The Chinese police have taken action against them.
