A coalition of opposition parties has opened a big front against the government of Prime Minister Imran Khan in protest against rising inflation and poverty in Pakistan.
People have taken to the streets as part of the ongoing movement under the banner of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM). Demonstrations are going on in important cities like capital Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta.
The government has shut down mobile and internet. Due to this, the government has deployed a large number of police and paramilitary forces in the cities.
Vehicles, containers and barricades have been put in place to block the way of the protesters. Four people, including two policemen, were killed in clashes during a TLP demonstration in Lahore late on Friday night.
Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz and Jamaat-Ulema-e-Islam Faiz under the PDM are leading these protests. Metro bus services in Rawalpindi, Lahore and Islamabad have also been suspended.
Vehicle-barricades blocked the way, many cities became police cantonments
In major cities such as Islamabad and Lahore, police and paramilitary forces blocked the way for protesters by putting up containers and barricades. All entry and exit routes in Lahore have been closed.
On the other hand, the Punjab government has formed a committee for talks with the opposition party Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) involved in the protest.
Karachi: PPP demonstration, Sindh CM also involved
The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) demonstrated against the Imran government in Karachi. The Chief Minister of Sindh province Syed Murad Ali also participated in it. Shah called upon the people to show the mirror to the Imran government. Ali said that Imran Khan does not know anything about the poverty of Pakistan. Because Imran has spent his whole life abroad.
Imran has failed miserably, he has to resign
Another person from Islamabad, supporting the protest, said that Imran Khan has failed miserably as Prime Minister. He will have to resign. The common people have not got any relief. The promises with which Imran came to power have not been fulfilled. People have come out on the streets only because of suffering due to inflation and poverty. Everyone is united.
Law and order also collapsed, 60% below poverty line
Muslim League Nawaz’s Maryam Aurangzeb, who was sitting on a demonstration in Rawalpindi, has said that the law and order in the country has also collapsed. People are being forced to commit suicide due to poverty.
Today, more than 60 percent of the population in Pakistan is forced to live below the poverty line. People have to take to the streets. The opposition to the government will continue.
