Vivek Murthy US Surgeon General: The newly elected US President Joe Biden has appointed an Indian-origin figurehead to the US Surgeon General. Earlier in the Obama administration, Vivek Murthy was working in the same position.

The newly elected President of Washington, US, Joe Biden has appointed Dr. Vivek Murthy, his principal adviser on Kovid — 19, and Indian-American Dr. Vivek Murthy as the next Surgeon General. However, it has not been formally announced yet. This information has been given in the media. Media reports said that Murthy was given the same role in the Obama administration.

He had to abruptly step down during Trump administration. Biden’s three-member Kovid — 19 advisory board — includes 43-year-old Indian-origin doctor Murthy. The Washington Post reported on Thursday that a former US surgeon general, Vivek H Murthy, has been asked to play the old role, quoting a man involved in the decision. A formal announcement will be made soon.

The Surgeon General in the US has a tenure of four years and is the top official of the government in public health matters. In the current term, Jerome Adams is appointed to this position. Murthy was appointed to the post of Surgeon General on 15 December 2014 after approval of 51–43 votes in the Senate. President Donald Trump’s administration released him on 21 April 2017. Doctor Murthy, co-founder of Doctors for America, has worked in several hospitals.
