WeChat and TikTok: Trump tried to ban Tiktok in mid-2020 but was banned by US courts and after that the issue of Tiktok disappeared from discussions due to the presidential election.

Washington. US President Joe Biden has overturned an important decision of former President Donald Trump. The US administration has refused to ban China’s popular apps Tiktok and WeChat for the time being. In September last year, Trump announced a ban on both these apps. But later his decision was stayed by the court. Withdrew the executive orders of former President Donald Trump related to initiatives taken in this direction and has decided to conduct a self-review to identify the national security threats related to these applications of China.

A new White House executive order directs the Commerce Department to conduct an “evidence-based” analysis of transactions involving apps manufactured, controlled or supplied by China. Officials are particularly concerned about applications that collect personal data of people and have links with the Chinese military or intelligence activities.

According to senior US administration officials, the department will also make recommendations on ways to better protect the genetic or personal health information of Americans and look into the dangers of certain software applications linked to China or other hostile countries. The current concern suggests that popular apps linked to China may contain personal data of Americans.

Let us tell you that Trump had tried to ban Tiktok in mid-2020 but American courts banned him and after that the issue of Tiktok disappeared from discussions due to the presidential election. Tiktok claims that it has about 100 million active users in America, a large part of which is youth.
