Islamabad, ANI. After the handing over of the command of Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI to Lieutenant General Nadeem Ahmed Anjum, the tension between the government and the army seems to be ending.

The government has also approved the appointment of Lieutenant General Nadeem Anjum. Pakistani news channel Geo News has confirmed this.

Prime Minister Imran Khan and Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s appointment to the post of Director General of Pakistan’s intelligence agency approved the appointment of Lt Gen Nadeem in a meeting held at the Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) Secretariat on Tuesday.

It is said that it was a face-to-face meeting of the two leaders, in which the current ISI DG Lt Gen Faiz Hameed also attended.

Several military officers were transferred at the beginning of the month. Controversy arose over this when Prime Minister Imran Khan questioned the appointment process of the new ISI chief. However, he later termed the tussle as a ‘technical hurdle’.

Forces that brought Imran to power feeling uneasy: PPP

Taking a jibe at the Imran government, opposition leader and PPP leader Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah said it is the prerogative of the Pakistan Army to appoint the country’s Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and political parties should refrain from commenting on it.

He also claimed that “the forces that brought Imran Khan and his party to power are now feeling uneasy” in view of the indecision regarding appointments to national institutions. According to the Dawn newspaper report, Shah made these remarks after being released from jail after two years of imprisonment.

He said that the issue of appointment of the chairman of National Accountability Bureau should also be resolved in accordance with the Constitution and due process of law. Otherwise, once again an unfavorable situation may arise.
