Microsoft will flip the switch on its cloud gaming system in September, just two months or so before bringing its new Xbox Series X console to market.

The software giant last year began testing Project xCloud, which streams video games to tablets, smartphones and other devices. No word on how much the service will cost, but it will include the game “Halo: Infinite,” among the 100-plus games playable, Phil Spencer, head of Xbox for Microsoft, announced Thursday in an online post.

“Halo Infinite,” unveiled last year, is expected to hit the market concurrently with Microsoft’s new console.

Microsoft will add Project xCloud free at no additional cost for those who pay for its Xbox Game Pass Ultimate service ($14.99), which gives subscribers access to online multiplayer gaming and 100-plus video games to stream, Spencer said. “So when ‘Halo Infinite’ launches, you and your friends can play together and immerse yourselves in the Halo universe as Master Chief – anywhere you go and across devices,” he said.

Cloud gaming and the subscription service can also give players access to new games, “even if you choose to stay with your current console for a while,” he said.

The new Xbox Series X will have four times the processing power of the current Xbox One X console, Spencer said.

Microsoft will reveal more details about upcoming Xbox Series X games on Thursday, July 23.
