Islamabad:  Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif is going to have difficulties. The Imran government has started legal process with Britain for his extradition. He has already been declared a fugitive. Pakistan’s Information Minister Shibli Faraj has given this information. He said that after the start of this process, the way will be cleared by Britain to hand over the former Prime Minister to Pakistan. Sharif, who is in exile in London, failed to return home this month to face corruption charges by a Pakistani court. Was declared a fugitive legally.

Faraj told the Associated Press that it is the responsibility of the British authorities not to let ‘criminals like Sharif’ stay there. In 2018, Sharif was sentenced to seven years in prison in separate cases of corruption and money laundering. He said that we are trying to bring back Sharif, we have tried before and we will keep trying.

Currently Pakistan has no extradition treaty with Britain. Britain has not made any immediate comment about this. This process will take years and may face stiff resistance in Parliament. Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League Party (PMLV) is currently holding rallies across the country against Prime Minister Imran Khan. The party is about to resign by the end of the month due to poor governance and deteriorating economy.

Imran Khan refused to resign. The opposition has spoken of resigning from parliament and provincial assemblies in 2021 for a mid-term election. Imran has said that elections will be held, but only to fill the seats vacated by opposition members. Sharif, 70, has been Prime Minister thrice.
