Organizers said Friday they were cancelling the 2020 ny auto show that had previously been pushed back until August, citing the continued coronavirus pandemic and therefore the venue’s use as a military hospital .
The show, which was initially set for early April and is usually wont to unveil new vehicles, was set to require place at the Javits Convention Center. However, the middle is now getting used as a lively hospital and is in standby mode for the foreseeable future, organizers said.
The next ny show will happen April 2-11, 2021. A string of auto shows are canceled this year and a few automakers — like Toyota — are opting to carry virtual unveilings of latest vehicles.
Mark Schienberg, president of the Greater ny Automobile Dealers Association, the organization that owns and operates the 120-year-old ny Auto Show, noted that automakers and their exhibit partners needed “immense planning” to construct a show. “Because of the uncertainty caused by the virus, we feel it might not be prudent to continue with the 2020 Show,” he said.
Large gatherings in ny are canceled through a minimum of Labor Day , including Broadway shows.
Detroit’s auto show that had been set for June was canceled in March. The Paris Motor show scheduled for late September/early October in March was canceled as were auto shows in Geneva.
