PM Modi’s visit to Italy: Modi will meet Pope today, will also meet many other leaders including the President of France

Rome, Agencies. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a visit to Italy to attend the 16th G20 Summit, will visit the capital Rome today. He will meet the Christian religious leader Pope Francis here today. 

This meeting is going to be of 30 minutes. It is expected that during this time, PM Modi can discuss the global scenario with the Pope regarding matters like Kovid-19. Giving information about the Prime Minister’s programs in Italy, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said on Friday that Prime Minister Modi will first meet Pope Francis personally and after some time there will be delegation level talks.

Shringla further said that the Vatican has not set any agenda for the talks. I believe there is a tradition that when there is a discussion with Pope Francis there is no agenda and we respect that. I am sure that during this time we will engage in discussions on the global scenario in general and on issues that are important to us.

PM Modi will also visit Vatican City today to meet Italian Foreign Minister Cardinal Pietro Parolin. Apart from this, he will meet French President Emmanuel Macron today. He will also meet Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to hold bilateral meetings with the heads of at least a dozen countries during his five-day visit to Italy and the UK. The names of countries whose leaders have been finalized include Italy, Britain, Nepal, Singapore, France, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Japan, Spain. PM’s meeting with US President Joe Biden is also possible. Officials of both the countries are in touch regarding this meeting.
