Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the death of Nawaz Sharif’s mother

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote a private letter to PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif last month expressing grief over his mother’s demise. The letter was written on 27 November, issued by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Thursday. In the letter, Prime Minister Modi expressed deep grief over the demise of Sharif’s mother on 22 November.

The newspaper Dawn told on Thursday that the letter was sent to Sharif’s daughter and PML-N vice-chairman Maryam Nawaz by the Indian High Commission in Islamabad last week and urged her to inform her father, who is based in London .

Narendra Modi wrote in the letter, Dear Mian Sahib, I am deeply saddened to learn about the demise of your mother Begum Shamim Akhtar on 22 November in London. I express my condolences in this hour of grief.

The Prime Minister recalled his conversation with Sharif’s mother during his brief surprise visit to Lahore in 2015, saying his simplicity and warmth were indeed very heartfelt. He said, in this hour of grief, I pray to God to give you and your family the strength to bear this irreparable loss.
