Chinese President Xi Jinping started the ‘Operation Empty Plate’, saying that its purpose is to motivate people to eat as much as they need.

It is being told that China is ahead in food wastage. Some such videos are becoming viral in social media in which a man is shown eating 10-10 burgers and pizza together.

Over Eating in China means that this challenge of eating more food at one time is quite popular there. Here many people are making videos of eating more, accepting this challenge. In China, Over Eating and Food Challenge is often discussed, but now it will be banned by making laws there.

Under China, it will be illegal to over-eat in India under Operation Empty Plate. Here, a penalty of about one lakh rupees will be imposed for eating excess food. If restaurants violate this law, then strict action will be taken on them too.

What is the reason for the action

The reason behind this action being taken to stop food wastage in China is the grain crisis in China. Every year 30 million tons of food is wasted in China. Here 6 percent of the total food production is wasted. Every year 18 million tonnes of food is thrown here.

Operation Empty Plate

A campaign started in China from August this year to deal with the grain crisis. It was named Operation Empty Plate. Its purpose is to make people aware to eat less food at night and to prevent wastage of food.

Grain crisis in china

According to China’s Ministry of Agriculture, in 2019, China produced a total of 66 million tonnes of grain. During this time, China imported 90 million kg of rice from India. This happened for the first time in the last 30 years, when China bought such quantity of rice from India.
