Washington:  India is at the forefront of arms purchases from the US. During the tenure of the Trump administration this year, India bought the most arms from the US. According to the US Defense Security Co-operation Agency (DSCA), the surge in US arms sales to India comes at a time when total arms sales from the US to other countries fell to $ 50.8 billion in 2020.

US-India deal from 1950-2020

Between 1950 and 2020, the US sold weapons worth US $ 12.8 billion to India under Foreign Military Sales (FMS). According to the data, despite the Trump administration barring any military and security assistance to Pakistan, it was sold weapons under the FMS. Pakistan bought arms from the US for $ 146 million in 2020. According to the 2020 edition of the US Historical Sales Book, India bought weapons worth $ 754.4 million in 2017, $ 28.2 million in 2018.

America’s deal with other countries

The US sold weapons worth $ 55.7 billion in 2019 to other countries, while in 2017 the figure was $ 41.9 billion. According to the data, the major buyers of US arms in 2020 were India ($ 3.4 billion in 2020 as against $ 62 million in 2019), Morocco ($ 1.24 million to $ 4.5 billion), Poland ($ 67.3 million to $ 4.7 billion). , Singapore ($ 13.7 million to $ 1.3 billion), Taiwan (from $ 87.6 million to $ 11.8 billion) and the UAE (from $ 1.1 billion to $ 3.6 billion). However, during this period, the purchase of arms from the US by many countries has decreased. These include Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Belgium, Iraq and South Korea.
