The government of Pakistan approved the construction of a Hindu temple in Islamabad on Monday. The construction of the temple here was stopped about six months ago due to pressure from hardline Islamic groups. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Monday issued a notification in Lahore allowing construction of boundary wall of cremation ground of Hindu community in Sector-9/2 of Islamabad.

Earlier some Kattawadi religious leaders warned the government not to allow the construction of the temple in Islamabad. In July, the CDA stopped construction of boundary walls at the site fixed for the temple citing legal reasons. The council, which advised the government on religious matters, said in October that there was no constitutional or Sharia ban on temple construction in Islamabad or anywhere else in the country.
