Trump ordered most US troops to leave Somalia

WASHINGTON:  The Pentagon said on Friday that it was withdrawing most troops from the African country of Somalia at the behest of President Donald Trump. The Pentagon said in a brief statement that by early 2021 ‘most’ American troops and equipment would be brought back from Somalia. At least 700 soldiers are currently stationed in Somalia, who are training local militants of Al Shabaab, associated with terrorist organization Al Qaeda, to deal with terrorists. Trump had recently given orders to reduce his troops in Afghanistan and Iraq and hoped to withdraw some or all of his troops from Somalia. The Pentagon said that reducing the number of troops in Somalia does not necessarily mean that the US is ending counter-terrorism efforts there. He said, “As a result of this decision,
