Glasgow, Pretr. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday inaugurated the CAP-26 climate summit with a warning. He said that the world is standing on the verge of destruction and to save it, leaders have to become ‘James Bond’.

Johnson likens the state of the warming earth to the fictional character ‘James Bond’ who is wrapped in a bomb that could destroy the world, and Bond attempts to deactivate it and eventually save the world. “We are in almost the same situation, and the bomb that will destroy the world is not fictional but real,” Johnson told global leaders.

He said the threat of climate change is posed by burning coal, oil and natural gas. He said it all started in Glasgow when James Watt invented the coal-fired steam engine. The goal of this UN summit on climate is to give shape to an agreement on curbing carbon emissions.

The purpose of this conference is to reach an agreement to cut carbon emissions to such an extent that global warming does not rise by more than 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. Johnson we are already too late and now is the time to act on it. He said that the average age of more than 130 world leaders who have gathered is more than 60 years, while the generation most affected by climate change is yet to be born.

Chinese President calls for strict joint action

In his written message to CAP-26, Chinese President Xi Jinping called for jointly tough action to tackle the challenges of climate change. Xi did not attend the conference in person. He also stressed on the rapid adoption of renewable energy to reduce carbon emissions.

Israeli minister could not attend due to wheelchair

Israel’s Energy Minister Karin Elharer was unable to attend the KAP-26 summit due to a wheelchair. She told a TV news channel that the vehicle that was provided to her to reach the venue did not have wheelchair seating, so she could not attend the conference. He hoped that some solution might be found on Tuesday and he could attend the conference.
